Wednesday- One of my biggest dreams came true on Wednesday! We went to Gimmelwald!! Gimmelwald is an often overlooked stop on the Schilthorn cable car that was made famous by Rick Steves. It is still largly ignored, and you can bet that everyone walking around either has a rick Steves book in their backpack or wandered down from Mürren. We took the gondola up the mountain to Gimmelwald...
...walked around the village and then walked up to Mürren. Up a mountain. In the heat. Straight. up. a mountain. We walked around Mürren a bit and then headed back to Gimmelwald. We stopped (twice!) at the Pension Gimmelwald for drinks with a view.

Yes, this really was taken from the patio of Pension Gimmelwald. My new dream job is to be a server there.
We finally had to leave on one of the last gondolas down.
(If you only watch one video, make it the one going down.)

Thursday:
On Thursday we took an English language walking tour of Basel. It was great! Our guide really told us a lot about the history of the city. We saw some really cool historic stuff - and y'all know how much I love history!

More Basel pictures here.
After the tour, we went back to Sacha's house and poked around his village.

More pictures of his village here.
We ate fondue for dinner - well, Sacha and Christian did. We couldn't verify if it was gf or not, so I skipped it.

Yes, Swiss people really do eat fondue. It is usually a winter meal, though.
Friday:
We headed about 20 minutes and a whole world away from Sacha's village to Delémont. everything in Delémont is French. The language, street signs, culture... everything.

After a short walking tour, we had a few drinks, bought some wine and headed home for Raclette!
More pictures of Delémont here.
Raclette is a type of Swiss cheese, but also a way of preparing it. Basically, you put the cheese in to these small pans and put it in to the Raclette cooker where it melts. after it is as melted and brown as youu want it, you scrape it out on to potatoes.

There are many other ways to eat raclette, and you can read about them here.

I can not even tell you how good it is!
After Raclette, we headed to a party at Sacha's work, to watch the Switzerland/Honduras match. They grilled a bunch of different kinds of meat (mostly sausage!) and people brought dishes to share. They had a projector set up and we got to watch the game projected on to the wall. I need a large TV now! I didn't take any pictures at the party, because it was private event, but trust me when I say we had a blast!
